PetTread: The latest way to exercise your pet

In a recent article written May 13, CNET discusses an upcoming product that could help busy pet owners exercise their dog. Exercise for pets has become a serious issue as more and more of American pets are drastically overweight.

Obesity in pets not only causes joint pain and diabetes, but can also shorten a pet's lifespan. Unfortunately, many people claim they don't have time to take their dog for a quick walk.

That's where PetTread could come in.
PetTread can be described as a giant hamster wheel for dogs and cats
It's an electric treadmill that forms into a circle that can be disassembled to store under your bed or in the closet. The treadmill will also have USB ports that allow you to track your pet's exercise progress and a community will be formed that allows pet owners to connect and get the help they need to slim down their pets. The best part though is that this product has a number of safety features that will protect your pet, including a 15 minute time limit and an automatic kill switch that disables the treadmill if the pet stops walking.

The product isn't currently available for purchase, but the masterminds behind PetTread are raising money through Kickstarter to get the project off the ground.

The engineers are hoping to raise $110,000. Those that donate $200 or more will get one of the finished products, but only if the Kickstarter campaign is successful.
