Pets displaced in Oklahoma tornado ready for adoption Posted by Miranda Grossman / CBS12 News
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- About 50 pets rescued from Oklahoma after the devastating tornadoes, are now up for adoption.  The dogs and cats had been in shelters up there.

Dozens of people showed up Wednesday morning at the Tri-County Humane Society in Boca Raton to get one of the dogs rescued from Oklahoma

Bryan Rocafort was there first thing thing Wednesday morning to adopt a Great Dane -German Shepard mix, named Okie.

"We came to look another dog after my dog passed away. When I saw him my heart melted I knew he was the one for sure," said Rocafort.

The 20-year-old Delray Beach college student has been there every day since last Friday to visit the dog who was actually the very first adoption.

Staff and volunteers with the Tri-County Humane Society drove 22 hours up and back, to rescue 80 dogs and cats who were stranded during last month's killer tornado.

Tri-County partners with other rescue organizations to save pets after natural disasters.

The adoption fee is $200 if the cat or dog is already spayed or neutered.
